cricket

The Association offers persons with disabilities the opportunity of attending cricket matches at Sahara Park, Newlands, by way of distributing complimentary tickets, courtesy of the Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA).

The WPCA recognised the need for participation of persons with disabilities in audiences of the major sports and entered into an agreement with APD to provide a set amount of complimentary tickets to every season.

This venture has been extremely well received amongst those who have attended matches regularly and it remains a race to secure a ticket to an upcoming one-day international!

TICKETS

Tickets for the wheelchair area are available from Mrs Rita Scott at the Western Cape Association for Persons with Disabilities on telephone (021) 555-2881. Tickets are distributed on a first come first served basis, utilising a special phone-in day for each match. Should you wish to receive a ticket to a specific match, simply phone Rita Scott on the date allocated for that match and she will put your name on a rotational list for a ticket.

Should there not be any tickets available for that match, you will be put on a waiting list in the event of any last-minute cancellations. Failing receiving a ticket from a cancellation, you will automatically receive a ticket to the following match. In this way, you will be assured of a ticket, albeit not to the match of your choice.

Your personal particulars will also be kept on record so that we can keep you up to date of happenings at Newlands.
Please note : Tickets cannot be reserved via e-mail.

TESTS / INTERNATIONALS

In an effort to be fair to those persons who faithfully watch the Provincial matches, persons requesting tickets to Test matches will be required to have attended at least two Provincial matches that season.

THE WHEELCHAIR AREA

  • Enter via the motor gate on Camp Ground Rd at the Cape Town end of the grounds (i.e. next to Kelvin Grove).
  • Take the Oaks Corner Pavilion lift to Level 1(push button 2).
  • The wheelchair area is behind the public seating on that level.

PENALTIES

Should you be unable to attend a match for which you have tickets, kindly advise Rita Scott at the Association by 16H30 on the last working day before the match or by 11H00 on the day of the match if it takes place on a weekday, so that arrangements can be made to allow someone on the waiting list to attend that match.
Should you fail to do so with no valid reason, you will not be allowed to attend the following match you request tickets for.

HELPERS

All disabled persons requiring assistance are allowed one helper to each match. If you require the assistance of a helper, please advise Rita Scott when you phone her for a ticket.

Rugby

The Chris Burger / Petro Jackson Rugby Players Fund was established to look after the needs of those persons who had experienced a spinal cord injury as a result of playing rugby. The Fund owns the Chris Burger Suite at Newlands Rugby Stadium, and administers tickets to the Suite.
