Western Cape APD Branches

The Association is presently the umbrella body for 24 registered Branches, all of whom are registered with the Directorate for Non-Profit Organisations and comply with certain conditions laid down by the Association.

Background

  The Association is presently the umbrella body for registered Branches, all of whom are registered with the Directorate for Non-Profit Organisations in terms of the Non-Profit Organisations Act of 1997and the Income Tax Act, Act 58 of 1962 and comply with certain conditions laid down by the Association. Despite these conditions, each Branch maintains its autonomy and remains the responsibility of the Management Committee by which it is run. Branches deliver services to persons with disabilities, while the Association performs a support, advisory, consultative and supervisory service to Branches.

Branches are divided into area specific and function specific, i.e. Branches serving a specific area or providing a specific service. Branches employing social workers and thereby delivering social services to persons with disabilities are to be found in the following areas:

Resources used by social workers in their service delivery include the placement of children in Special Care Centres or adults in protected employment, which means that many Branches run specific projects in these fields.

Branches performing specific functions include 2 group homes, two day care centres and a support group.
